About. How might we connect to our history and to each other through public space art activities in our rapidly shifting communities? How might we creatively explore the unique mash-up of San Jose's blend of history and cultures?
Layers of SJ playfully explores San Jose community identity and history through hands-on sticker art activities. Images are curated from a range of library and museum collections, as well as, images submitted by the general public and photos taken by Takara. San Jose residents are invited to submit photographs of modern day artifacts by tagging the images with the hashtag #layerofsj on Instagram & Twitter At public workshop events, people will be able to use the photo stickers to create collages on paper. People will be asked to title their creations and share a short statement about them. These collages will be photographed and shared on the Layers of SJ website. You can also read about each object/artifact and where it was found in the sticker image archive. Layers of San Jose is inspired by the Below the Surface project in Amsterdam. |

About the Creative License Ambassador Program
Creative License Ambassadors is a program of the San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs. Through this program local creative professionals serve as “ambassadors,” championing the power of creative expression in everyday life by inspiring creativity through public hands-on artistic projects. Creative License Ambassadors rotate on a quarterly basis and are alumni of the Creating Connection training. This program was made possible with support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
